How a Coastal Restaurant Owner Used a Custom Toile de Jouy Pattern to Elevate His Branding

David Martinez is the proud owner of a charming Mediterranean-inspired restaurant on the West Coast. Known for its fresh, locally sourced seafood and stunning ocean views, the restaurant has become a favorite spot for tourists and locals. As the restaurant's popularity grew, David wanted to elevate his branding and create a cohesive visual identity that reflected the coastal charm and Mediterranean flavors of his bistro. That’s when he discovered Hughes Studio’s Commission Package.

Crafting a Coastal Mediterranean Vision

David had a vision for a custom toile de Jouy pattern that would narrate the story of his restaurant. The pattern needed to reflect the coastal beauty and Mediterranean tradition of the restaurant's setting, while also paying homage to its Mediterranean culinary roots.

He envisioned three custom scenes for the pattern:

  1. A Lighthouse Scene: The design would highlight the area’s iconic lighthouses, standing tall on rocky shoreline, surrounded by quaint cottages —symbolizing the steadfast, welcoming nature of the restaurant.

  2. A Sailboat Scene: To reflect the coastal lifestyle, Hughes Studio illustrated sailboats gently gliding across the water, representing the connection between the sea and the restaurant’s seafood-focused menu.

  3. Mediterranean Elements: David also wanted to incorporate olive branches, olive oil bottles, and crustaceans, bringing the Mediterranean influence into the design.

Designing the Custom Toile de Jouy Pattern

Hughes Studio used these ideas to create a seamless toile de Jouy pattern that incorporated David's vision into a cohesive design. The pattern, featuring delicate navy blue on a crisp white background, exuded elegance and charm, reflecting the restaurant's coastal atmosphere and Mediterranean essence.

The lighthouse and sailboat scenes were intricately illustrated, giving the pattern a sense of movement and storytelling. Olive branches and Mediterranean motifs were scattered throughout, tying everything together seamlessly and sophisticatedly.

Bringing the Pattern to Life

David was thrilled with the custom toile de Jouy pattern and immediately began incorporating it into his branding.

Menus: The restaurant’s menus featured the custom pattern. Printed in navy on textured paper, they felt luxurious and created an instant connection to the coastal setting.

Signage and Branding: The toile pattern also became a vital part of the restaurant’s signage and branding materials. The Mediterranean motifs, like olive oil bottles and seafood, were icons for the restaurant’s merchandise and takeout packaging.

Social Media: David loved how versatile the toile pattern was for digital use as well. He incorporated it into social media graphics as a backdrop for daily specials, event announcements, and behind-the-scenes content.

A Deeper Connection with Guests

The custom toile de Jouy pattern elevated the restaurant’s branding and created a deeper connection with its guests. Customers loved the thoughtful design, noting how it reflected the restaurant’s coastal charm and Mediterranean cuisine. The custom elements made the restaurant stand out in the competitive dining scene, and guests enjoyed taking home gift shop items like aprons and reusable bags that featured the elegant toile pattern.

David even created a line of custom napkins and tablecloths printed with the pattern, offering guests a memorable dining experience that felt exclusive and personal.

A Coastal Bistro with a Story to Tell

David Martinez wanted more than just a new design—he wanted to tell the story of his restaurant in a way that would resonate with his customers. Thanks to Hughes Studio’s custom toile de Jouy pattern, he created a visual identity that captured the heart of his coastal bistro.

With every detail, from the iconic lighthouses to the sailboats and Mediterranean touches, the custom pattern became a true reflection of the restaurant’s essence. It enhanced the branding and created a meaningful connection between the bistro and its guests, making it a destination for food, atmosphere, and storytelling.
